I’ve been wondering for a little while about where the risks are for the emerging creatures (and consequently the players). There is fun in collecting or dismantling, but I want (as a player) some sort of pressure on those activities. The obvious ones are the machines themselves—maybe they emit nasty chemicals, overheat, or even just a jagged edge causes a cut. I’ve started to think about a time pressure based on the rising tide—perhaps a turn counter (that has to be rolled under) goes up one each turn? Or a card with a new rule is turned over every turn or so? The idea is that it (an effect)isn’t certain but just becomes more likely. Maybe, like Wyrd, if the players fail to roll under the ‘sea dice’ (the one slowly increasing each turn), a random new rule is added.
